DR. Lydia Kinyuru Okutoyi

As the Director Health Care Quality (HCQ) at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi Kenya, her role is largely to support the hospital in assuring that the systems and processes align to provide quality, safe and patient centered services. Over the years she has been able to incrementally refine the performance measures with regards to Quality of care and leveraging on institutional platform for accountability, monitoring and improvement.


Dr. Lydia Okutoyi is the founding President for Society for Quality Health Care in Kenya (SQHK), a multidisciplinary professional association whose aim is to foster the quality and patient safety conservation in health facilities, academia and at national level. At the National level she is a member of the Quality of Care and Standards, Patient safety TWG, and supports the Maternal Quality of health care efforts with the QOC. She is a also a founding board member of Africa Consortium for Quality Improvement and Research (ACQUIRE).


Academics background: MBChB University of Nairobi (UON), MMed Obstetrics and Gynecology (UON), MPH(UOR), Safety Quality Informatics and leadership (SQIL) Harvard Medical School and also a Fellow with the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua). She is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Implementation Science, on Medical Error Reporting at the Kenyatta National Hospital
