ROSALIA OMUNGO

She is an independent journalist and serves as the Ag. Secretary/CEO of Kenya Editors’ Guild.  She has worked as managing editor for the Kenya Broadcasting Corporation (KBC) in Nairobi, where she led the Health, Science and environment desk. She is a Knight Science Journalism fellow (2017) at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Her work entailed leading special projects and mentoring reporters.She has reported widely on climate change and adaptation, energy, forests, water, biodiversity,technology and agriculture. In 2009, she won a Climate Change Media Partnership (CCMP) fellowship during which her main assignment was covering UN negotiations in Copenhagen, Denmark. She was the first Earth Journalism Scholar at the University of California Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism,where she spent Spring 2014 semester taking advanced classes in journalism and environmental studies.Her work has also earned her accolades among them Commonwealth award for excellence in reporting environment in Africa (2010). 

She is the chairperson of the Kenya Environment and Science Journalists Association (KENSJA) and a member of the Society for Environmental Journalists (SEJ). She holds a Masters degree in Development Communication from Daystar University, Kenya and a post-graduate diploma broadcast journalism from University of Nairobi, School of Journalism.
