NAIROBI, 7 April 2022: The winners of the third Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards (QHKA) were honored at a gala dinner held last night at Safari Park Hotel.

The Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards recognized service providers, individuals, and organizations in the health sector for their outstanding performance, positive contributions, and innovation in improving the standards of health service delivery in Kenya, for quality people-centered health systems.

QHKA aims at recognizing and lauding organizations and individuals for their outstanding contributions to the Kenyan health sector and acts as an impetus toward improving the standards of health service delivery.

A brainchild of Zawadi Brand Solutions Limited (ZBS Ltd) and in partnership with the Ministry of Health and Amref Health Africa, the initiative takes a health system strengthening approach to improve standards of health service delivery among health professionals by recognizing outstanding performance, promoting a culture of continuous Quality Improvement, advocating for strong partnerships between health service providers and health service users, fostering innovation and the use of information technology, and the sharing of best practices.

Speaking at the gala event, on behalf of the Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr. Simon Kibias said, “These awards come at the right time when the country is now pressing towards achieving Universal Health Coverage. It is important to note that there is no UHC without quality health care, therefore, every Kenyan is expected to have access to quality and essential health services without suffering financial hardships.”

Professor Miriam Were the Nobel Peace Prize 2022 nominee insisted that in healthcare there are so many opportunities to innovate.

Chair Kenya Health Professionals Oversight Authority, Dr. Amit N Thakker said “Leveraging on the existing infrastructure and excellent human capital in Kenya’s health sector can make us a hub for healthcare services in the region”

“Now more than ever, it is time for a quality revolution among low- and middle-income countries to improve health outcomes. As Kenya scales up Universal Health Coverage in the era of the Sustainable Development Goals, quality should be the foundation of health service delivery,” said Grace W Ndegwa, Executive Director of the Quality Healthcare Kenyan Awards.

Quality Healthcare Kenyan awards (QHKA) has taken on the mantle and seeks to change the narrative and showcase impact of the positive contributions on the Kenyan health sector for scalability and sustainability. Health services require quality as a foundation. For this reason, QHKA will honour excellence and innovation in the health sector with a goal of quality patient-centred care.
